Melk Abbey Ticket Prices 2026, and Which Tours Include Entry
Melk Abbey ticket prices for 2026 start at €16 for an adult, and most tours from Vienna do not include the ticket in their fare. This guide sets out every ticket the abbey sells, the guided tour and audio guide, and what each tour fare covers, so you can see the real cost of your day before you book.
How much does Melk Abbey cost in 2026?
An adult ticket costs €16. The prices below are valid from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, and they include the town of Melk's entertainment tax and 13% VAT. You pay at the ticket office in the first courtyard.

Your ticket covers the museum in the former imperial rooms, the Marble Hall, the balcony, the library, the church and the Northern Bastion with the Wachau Lab. From April to October it also covers the park and its garden pavilion, and the special exhibitions are included.
Is there a family, student or group ticket?
Yes, all three. The family ticket at €32 covers parents with their children up to 16, so a family of four pays less than four adults would. Pupils and students up to 27 pay €8 with a student ID.
Groups of 20 or more paying visitors pay €15 each, or €19 with a guided tour, and school classes pay €9.50 including a guide. A guided tour takes up to 45 people. Groups must reserve in advance.
Smaller groups pay differently. Under 20 paying visitors, each pays the €16 entrance, plus a flat fee for the group: €102 for 1 to 10 people, €88 for 11 to 14 and €75 for 15 to 19. If a member of your group has a disability card that states the need for a carer, the carer enters free.
How much are the guided tour and audio guide?
The guided tour costs €4 on top of your ticket, so €20 for an adult. It takes about 50 minutes through the imperial rooms, the Marble Hall, the balcony and the library, and you see the church on your own afterwards.
English tours start at 10:55 and 14:55 from April to October, with 13:55 added from May to September, and at 11:00, 13:30 and 15:00 from November to March. The audio guide costs from €3.99. If your tour already includes a guided abbey visit, you do not need either.
Park-only and combination tickets
If you only want the gardens, a park ticket costs €5.50 for adults, €4 for pupils and students, and €1.50 for children aged 6 to 16. The park opens from late March to the end of October.
The abbey also sells combination tickets with three nearby sights: Stift Göttweig for €27, Schallaburg for €28.50 and Schloss Artstetten for €29.60. ÖBB Rail Tours sells a Wachau Ticket combining the train, a boat and Melk Abbey, which the abbey lists without a price.
Do you need to book?
Not as an individual visitor. You buy your ticket on the spot, and you can buy the next guided tour at the same counter. If you want certainty about a tour time, you can pre-book by email with the abbey's tours office.
Groups must reserve. There is no skip-the-line ticket, even though one tour title uses the phrase: individual visitors queue at the ticket office. Tickets are sold only at the abbey's counters, and combination tickets also through the partner sites.

Only a few, and this is where the price of a tour can mislead you. Here is what each fare says about the abbey.

The Danube Valley private tour is the one to pick if you want every abbey cost settled before you leave Vienna. The Wachau Valley tour with a Danube boat does the same on its winter dates.
What do tours cost, per person or per vehicle?
Shared tours are priced per person, from $79 for the Wachau day tour to $142 for the Danube Valley coach day. Those fares are for one seat, whatever the size of your party.
Private tours are priced two ways. Some show a per-person fare, from $232 for the private Wachau tour to Dürnstein and Melk. Others price the whole vehicle: the private Melk, Hallstatt and Salzburg day costs $898 per group, up to 3, and the private Danube Valley tour with Melk and Dürnstein costs $992 per group, up to 6. Which extras do you pay on the day?
- The abbey ticket, on most tours: €16, or €20 with the guided tour.

What does the ticket cover, and what costs extra at the abbey?
Your ticket covers more than the guided route. The mineral collection in the former prelate's library is included, open daily from 13:30 to 15:30 between 1 April and 31 October, for up to 25 people at a time. The special exhibitions are included too, and the 2026 exhibition "Natura in Arte" is free for everyone until 10 January 2027.
What your ticket does not cover: the guided tour at €4, the audio guide, food at the abbey restaurant or the pavilion café, and concerts. Concert tickets are sold separately through the abbey's events box office, and we do not print their prices. The noon prayer at 12:00 in the church is open to guests, without a ticket.
Can you cancel, and do you get a refund?
Every tour we list refunds in full if you cancel at least 24 hours before it starts. Cancel on the platform you booked through.
The abbey's own rules are stricter. A guided tour you miss is not refunded. Groups can cancel free of charge up to 72 hours ahead, then pay €50, and a group that does not show up pays €100. If you travel as an individual and buy at the gate, there is nothing to cancel.
What is the real cost of a day?
Add the abbey ticket to any fare that leaves it out, then add lunch. Here is a worked example for one adult, using the fares above.
